I think they've got to look into that further.

It was so blatantly obvious that it wasn't a red, yet the ref didn't even consider the nature of the incident, didn't discuss the nuance, he couldn't wait to give him a red.

Very strange. There's no way in a million years he gives a red to one of theirs up the other end, given the magnitude of that game.

Freddie Stewards Red Card rescinded..... not a surprise as it was one of the worst fucking decisions I think I have ever seen...

Stayed up in Camden for the weekend to see a band we all follow... watched the game in a pub in Camden and as you can imagine packed to the rafters with Micks... good bunch and some great banter... however to a man (and women) all said that decision was pure and utter bullshit... what was shaping up to being a very tight test match made an absolute mockery... anyway well done the Irish... done the job... not the best team for me... that French mob if they fire will take some stopping come the Autumn...

Not only was the sending off a joke, but could set the scene for an epidemic of simulation.

It seems that in certain situations now, a player need only put his head on an opponent to get him sent off.

Thought we looked nervous FH. Eventual settled and the quality tries won it.
u20s going for back to back grand slams against England today. Sam Prendergast, the heir apparent to Sexton's throne. You'll be seeing a lot of him in years to come.

Stupid decision ruined the game.

It’s a period of rebuilding for England over the next couple of years and the World Cup is too soon for them to make a big impact.

As for Ireland, as I said last week there is now pressure on them to finally win the World Cup. They will never have a better chance.

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
They are trying to grow the game across the world, you will not do it with shocking decisions like that. I get what they're trying to do, but that is an absolute fucking shambles.

As I say, they could've easily been the other way, and that fantastic Ireland team could have had all their amazing work to date ruined by that team of fucking cretins running that match.

Imagine the RWC Final be decided on an accidental collision like that? There is not a single person on the planet that saw that in real time and thought it was even a penalty against England, let alone a card. Shocking.

Poor decision by the ref and the TMO bloke spoilt the match.
Becoming more regular now ruining the sport like football has been fucked.

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
I was listening to something Nigel Owens said when he woke up next to me one morning . He said that they should cut down on the amount of substitutes allowed so the players would need to be fitter , less bulky and more skilful. It was more entertaining rugby then rather than this collision stuff. I switched to football after the sending off. That will be a cloud over Ireland's grand slam

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
I hesitate to say it but Matt Dawson made the point - why rely so much on slow mo ?

That was precisely the type of incident that should have been considered in "real time" - same goes for VAR incidentally. Refs don't have built in time adjustment do they ?

Bloody ruined a potentially competitive match.

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
Agree entirely, ED. Might as well switch off at half time. A tightly contested game ruined by a shit decision from an accidental collision by a fella who’s about 7 foot who was expected to be on the ground within a split second. Going a man down in rugby is a completely different beast, it’s game over, and will be a humiliation now.

Eerie Descent 8:04 Sat Mar 18
Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
The most obvious case of accidental collision you are ever likely to see, that is a fucking disgraceful decision. It only came about because of the Irish fumble, Steward was getting in position to tackle and the fumble meant the Irish player was down so low, Steward going at full tilt tried to get out of the way but it was impossible.

Can you imagine if that was down the other end, and all Ireland's brilliant work in the 6 Nations was undone because one of their players was sent off for that?

Shit like that will kill the sport, people will start switching off if players are getting sent off for that.

Went to one match in early 90's in a corporate box at Murrayfield mate of mine here typed out a spreadsheet of Players and rules in the hope of knowing what was going on.

Any sport that Cyprus holds the world record for international games undefeated must question the logic of the game.

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
I think England will be hugely up for this today.
Last competitive game before the world cup and a chance to stop a grand slam.

I remember in 2019 we were red hot favourites and England blew us away. Farrell & Tuilagi back in for England, they will look to close down Sexton early.

I'll be there but have a nagging feeling this one won't go are way. Raining on and off, expecting a war of attrition

Re: The Official 2023 6 Nations Rugby Thread
The RFU's hatred of League is the reason we have lost out on Andy Farrell and Shaun Edwards.

That is where the blame should lie

Except that's not true. Shaun Edwards was offered a job for England in 2006 when he was at Wasps and he declined. He maybe would've joined in 2015 but Jones didn't want him. Farrell was on the staff under Lancaster but Jones sacked him when he took over

I agree. There is nothing anyone can do when players like Ollivon or Aldritt go for the line at full tilt low and hard. I remember being taught that and you go straight at the tackler with everything. It takes legs tackles out and, given the current laws, pretty much everything else.
France weren't doing pick and go the guy receiving the ball was already at full speed.
I was pretty good from close range when played.
Also agree re fly-halves. England have historically gone for roundhead players rather than cavaliers since the Rob Andrew v Stuart Barnes thing. Johnny Wilkinson was a complete outlier as he could most things superbly. Poeple forget that it was George Ford at 10 for the semi final win against the All Blacks.

"Also, for a bloke who is supposed to be instinctive and creative, why did he kick every restart (and there were many) to exactly the same place?"

That was pissing me off as well, didn't even give the a chance to compete.
